The Great British Bake Off is one of the most beloved shows on British TV, but unfortunately its future has been hanging in the balance this year, as production has been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Thankfully, after months of speculation, we now know production on the next series of Bake Off is well underway, with filming all wrapped up.

The show's official Instagram account shared an image of a work station with the caption:

"Filming has wrapped on the new series of The Great British Bake Off. More news soon..."

We've also been treated to a tongue in cheek trailer, which references the fact that flour was so hard to come by at the start of the pandemic.

Filming usually begins in April, but a spokesperson confirmed at the time that had been postponed.

Speaking on The Andrew Marr Show on 10 May, judge Prue Leith said she was hopeful GBBO bosses will find a way to bring it back to our screens safely.

"I really hope so, everybody's hoping so, but we're all waiting for Boris to tell us what we're allowed to do and what we're not allowed to do," she said.

"It's impossible at the moment because there are really a lot of people on set, but I'm sure they'll find a way as soon as they can," she added.

Prue was also asked if she would want to be part of the show this year, to which she said:

"Absolutely, I'd be very upset if somebody kicked me off. Last year I did Junior Bake Off and senior Bake Off. Whether or not I'd be able to do both this time I just don't think there's enough time in the year."

During lockdown, Prue's co-host Paul Hollywood previously hinted to Radio Times that Bake Off 2020 could potentially air on TV in summer or early autumn.

"If we can get started, we could turn around the programme pretty quickly and still have it out in late summer or early autumn," he said, adding that of course everything "depends on when the lockdown is lifted."

At the time, a spokesperson for The Great British Bake Off said:

"We continue to monitor the situation and follow the advice of Public Health England and we will delay filming on The Great British Bake Off until it is safe to proceed."

Since then, it appears the team working on the show found a way to safely film.

While we don't know exactly when Bake Off will return, here's what has been confirmed about the next series.

Bake Off 2020: Hosts and judges

Little Britain's Matt Lucas has been confirmed to replace Sandi Toksvig as a co-host alongside Noel Fielding.

"I'm chuffed to bits to be joining the most delicious show on television," Matt said in a statement back in March.

"I can't wait to break bread with Noel, Prue and Paul and meet the brilliant bakers."

Meanwhile, Noel announced: "I love Matt. I love his warmth and his comedy and his big joyful smile. I think if we play our cards right we could become the next Chas and Morph."

Judge Paul Hollywood said Matt will be "a fantastic addition to the team," while Prue Leith added: "The combination of Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding! Will we stop laughing and get any filming done?"

Chief executive of Love Productions Richard McKerrow said: "It's extremely exciting to have Matt joining the Bake Off family, he's a phenomenal talent with a huge heart and we can't wait to enjoy the mischief and mayhem he and Noel will inevitably create in the tent."

As suggested by the above statement, Prue and Paul will be back to oversee proceedings.

At this stage, we don't know which bakers will be entertaining us from the tent. Watch this space for more news on that, as well as a potential air date.

The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4.
