Katy Perry is less than a week into motherhood, but she's already sharing a refreshing insight into the realities of it - from both a body and mind perspective. On August 26, Katy and her fiancé Orlando Bloom welcomed a baby girl named Daisy Dove Bloom, and the couple are clearly already smitten with their new addition.
"We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter," the new parents said in a statement released by UNICEF, a charity for which Katy and Orlando are both Goodwill Ambassadors.
Fast forward to Sunday night, and the 2020 MTV VMAs were being held in New York. Katy obviously couldn't attend due to newborn Daisy, but not one to miss out on all the fun, the 35-year-old Smile singer showed off her own "red carpet look" from the comfort of her home on Instagram. The look she went for? Real-life-new-mama-chic.
In an Instagram Stories photo, Katy can be seen wearing some comfortable high-waisted underwear over her still-present bump (it doesn't just disappear like magic as soon as the baby is out, you know!) along with a breast pump bra. Yup, we told you she was showing us the real side of new parenthood, and we couldn't be any more here for it.

In the photo, the singer tagged the brand of bra and pants she was wearing. Hilariously, she then added a credit for her hair and makeup. "Hair [and] makeup by: exhaustion," she wrote. Lol, I bet. Newborns are all kinds of cute, but they also eat/sleep/poo on repeat and to say all that must be tiring is an understatement.
With social media painting such a 'shiny' picture of everyone's lives, it's truly refreshing to see someone with such a platform as Katy Perry, showing off the realistic experience. If it makes even one new mum take a sigh of relief, having felt like a failure for not fitting into their pre-pregnancy jeans six days after giving birth, then here we have a triumph.
Welcome to the world, Daisy Dove Bloom! We are honoured to introduce Goodwill Ambassadors @KatyPerry and @OrlandoBloom's new bundle of joy.? ? "We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter," Katy and Orlando told us.? ? "But we know we're the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was. Communities around the world are still experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers and every eleven seconds a pregnant woman or newborn dies, mostly from preventable causes. Since COVID-19 many more newborn lives are at risk because of the increased lack of access to water, soap, vaccines and medicines that prevent diseases. As parents to a newborn, this breaks our hearts, as we empathize with struggling parents now more than ever.? ? "As UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors, we know UNICEF is there, on the ground, doing whatever it takes to make sure every expecting mother has access to a trained health worker and access to quality healthcare. In celebration of the heart we know our daughter already has, we have set up a donation page to celebrate DDB's arrival. By supporting them, you are supporting a safe start to life and reimagining a healthier world for every child. We hope your ?? can bloom with generosity.? ? Gratefully-? ? Katy & Orlando."? ? It's no surprise the Daisies singer (she released a song on her album by that name, which we now know to have been a hint for what she would go on to call her daughter) has taken this honest approach to post-partum life; Katy was very open all the way through her pregnancy journey about what was going on with her changing body.
During one interview on an Australian radio show, she told the hosts that falling pregnant has given her a newfound appreciation for her body, having now seen all the things it's capable of.
"I'm really grateful for my body, and I have so much respect for other women going through this process," she explained. "You get a whole new viewpoint being pregnant." Katy added, "But everything is swollen! My hands are swollen, and my feet are starting to swell!"
We look forward to all the insightful content to come from Katy and baby Daisy.
