If you're a fan of survival horror video games, then you'll know of the cult classic Amnesia, and you've probably played the games included in its series. It has also been played and promoted by huge names like PewdiePie and Markiplier on YouTube, which may have directly impacted its popularity even more. Some praise even claims that modern survival horror games lack the elements that make them as effectively terrifying as the Amnesia series. Here's each game in chronological order.

Launched on September 8, 2010, the first game in the Amnesia series was what catapulted to further success. The public's review of it was highly positive since of course, it delivered what it should: pure unadulterated horror. If you're a fan of the Amnesia games but have somehow missed The Dark Descent, it's worth the try.

Even though it's a relatively old game, launched more than ten years ago, it still delivers masterful gameplay and can satiate any horror fan. Like all the other Amnesia games, you'll be navigating the dark world in first-person.

You play as Daniel, plunged into a gothic, gloomy, and old castle. It's a simple setup, but the developers and game makers have successfully made it terrifying. You navigate your way through the dark corridors and avoid all the nightmarish horrors and ghouls, all while helping Daniel figure himself out through his amnesia.

If you're a fan of the renowned H.P. Lovecraft, you'll see that the game has been heavily inspired by his work. Insanity and the dark crevices of the human psyche are fully represented in the game.

The indirect sequel to Dark Descent, A Machine for Pigs was launched on September 10, 2013. Set in old Victorian London, the game has you immersed in an industrial nightmare, where you explore creepy places, and you must uncover the truth about a seemingly evil machine that lies just beneath the city.

A Machine for Pigs offers effective psychological horror and stealth elements, while mainly relying on its atmosphere, the slow burn pace, and the effective music. Of course, there are some jump scares in the game to add to the spice. However, the game in itself even without jump scares, is as scary as they come. Not unlike the first one.

The gameplay mechanics and elements have diverged away from the first installation. For example, there's no more inventory system, and there's no way to check on your health. You also don't have sanity, so you're unaffected by darkness or the monsters and disturbances around you. In a way, it's become a tad more difficult.

You play the role of rich industrialist Oswald Mandus, who just came by from an expedition in Mexico, where he got a lethal fever that put him to sleep for months. When he awakens, he's not aware of this fact. While he was sleeping, he was plagued by nightmares about a dark machine.

Make your way around London, read notes, use a journal, and hide in dark places from your enemies. Immerse yourself in the creepy industrial setting of this game and avoid the monstrous enemies that lurk.

The third installation of the game was launched on October 20, 2020, and we can see that the graphics have increasingly been modernized. Rebirth takes on the same first-person setting found in its predecessors but in a completely different setting.

It showcases the game-makers' terrifying creativity once again. Set in a dark but somehow ethereal environment, the game follows Tasi Trianon. Help Tasi explore the Algerian desert as she pieces her memories back together, forgetting them because of amnesia.

Gameplay elements like puzzle solving, maintaining sanity, avoiding hellish monsters, and trying to remember the truth are found in Rebirth. It follows the footsteps of the first two installations successfully and of course, gave fans what they want - another dose of Amnesia's effectively intriguing gameplay.

Amnesia: The Bunker launched on June 6, 2023. This Amnesia game deviates a tad from the older ones, introducing completely new game elements.

The game is set in a semi-open world, with the game itself being much more randomized than those of the previous years. There's also now a crafting system in the game, which did not exist in the older installations. What's more, in The Bunker installation, your player can now defend themselves with a gun.

You are immersed in World War One, where you play as Henri Clement. He's been involved in a series of mysterious experiments underground, and now he must uncover the truth. Your character is also being pursued by a monster known as The Beast. You have your work cut out for you as you explore the bunker and try to escape it, all while avoiding the beast.
