Blinken has been received in Mexico City by the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard. The meeting with López Obrador is scheduled for Monday afternoon and will also be attended by the U.S. Secretary of Economy, Gina Raimondo. Blinken's trip is part of the High Level Economic Dialogue between the two countries, according to the Mexican newspaper 'El Universal'.
López Obrador stressed before the meeting that "there is no quarrel" with the United States. "Our adversaries are rubbing their hands together and they have been rubbing their hands together for four years because they would like us to fight. They will keep rubbing their hands together. There cannot be a fight because the agreements that exist are beneficial for both nations. Although there are no fixed topics, it is possible that he will address migration and energy issues, and even the request to free Julian Assange, López Obrador said. "It is about addressing issues of interest for both nations and for both peoples," he said.
In addition, López Obrador assured that the relationship with U.S. President Joe Biden is good and recalled that he recently sent him a letter "with the purpose of maintaining a relationship of respect, respect for the sovereignty of the two countries, a policy of good neighborliness, and we have had no problem".
