Aston Villa have been linked with a future transfer deal that could see one of their midfielders make a move to another Premier League club, with another top-flight midfielder moving in the other direction.
According to a recent report from Calciomercato, Liverpool have made Douglas Luiz their main transfer target and could use Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to try and convince the Midlands club to let their Brazilian midfielder leave Villa Park and join Jurgen Klopp's side.
In terms of seeing the Englishman join Villa, we feel this would not be a good move for Johan Lange and the club to entertain, either in January or the next summer transfer window.
Since joining the Merseyside club from Arsenal back in the 2017 summer window in a deal worth £35m, Oxlade-Chamberlain has made 133 appearances for the Reds, scoring 17 goals and delivering 15 assists in the process.
During his time at Anfield, numerous injury issues have massively impacted his playing time with the Reds, which would make him a potentially unreliable figure for Steven Gerrard to have in his squad.
Bearing in mind how Luiz has been a much more reliable figure for Villa in terms of avoiding any serious injuries and being consistently available for selection since his arrival in 2019, this highlights how important he is to the team.
Even when he did get the chance to play last season, the 29-year-old failed to show what he can do, as his overall performances earned him a rather underwhelming overall season rating of 6.55/10, making him the lowest-rated Liverpool player to start more than one league game according to WhoScored.
Having also had previous performances labelled as "frustrating" by journalist Sachin Nakrani, that is exactly what he could well be for Villa and Gerrard if this suggested swap deal takes place.
With all of that in mind, we feel that Villa and Lange should not consider any potential deal that could see the £120k-per-week Liverpool dud join the club in the future, as it could well end up being a calamity for them.
