The coffin with the mortal remains of Queen Elizabeth II has departed Sunday around 10.00 (one hour more in mainland Spain) from Balmoral Castle, at the beginning of a journey of about six hours to Edinburgh.
The funeral procession, in which participates Princess Anne, daughter of the late Queen, will travel more than 280 kilometers and will pass through the towns of Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen, Angus and Tayside before reaching the capital of Scotland.
Once she arrives in Edinburgh, a mortuary chapel will be set up in the Throne Room of Holyrood Palace, the main residence of the monarchy in Scotland. On Monday, a mass will be held at St. Giles Cathedral, which will be attended by the new king, Charles III.
Edinburgh has dawned this Sunday with a major security deployment and, during the night, drills have been conducted to finalize all the details of the funeral procession, which is expected to attract a large number of citizens, according to public broadcaster BBC.
