At least one person has been killed and two injured in a stabbing attack in the southern German town of Ansbach on Thursday afternoon.
A 30-year-old man attacked several passers-by in the vicinity of the Ansbach train station, injuring two people slightly, police said in a statement.
After the first attacks, local police officers were alerted and, after arriving on the scene, shot the attacker as he approached to attack them and fatally wounded him.
Witnesses consulted by the officers revealed that the man shouted "Allahu Akbar" (an expression of faith of Islam widely used in the Muslim world) several times during the execution of the crime.
The authorities in charge of the investigation are checking whether the event may be related to an Islamist or terrorist background, the Ansbach police said in the missive.
