Ukrainian Justice Minister Denys Maliuska detailed Friday that Ukraine will demand more than 300 billion euros in compensation from Russia for damages caused by its troops during the invasion of the country.

"Our goal is to come up with a resolution at a special session of the UN General Assembly in October that will lay the groundwork for an international reparation mechanism," the Ukrainian justice minister said in an interview with the German daily 'Waz'.

"We want compensation for all the damage Russia has caused in Ukraine through its war of aggression. The direct damage caused by the destruction of infrastructure, residential buildings or industry currently amounts to more than 300 billion euros," Maliuska has detailed.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Justice also pointed to "environmental damage" as well as "personal damage inflicted on the victims of the war", which it described as incalculable.

"We assume that hundreds of thousands of people have died as a result of the war. The relatives are entitled to compensation," Maliuska said during the interview.

For this, the Ukrainian Justice Minister has asked for access to such amount from the reserves of the Russian central bank frozen by the G7 countries.

He has also pointed out that the assets of Russian state-owned companies such as Gazprom or Rosneft "should flow into this fund", as well as the money from the accounts of Russian oligarchs and their assets.
