Career expo

The 38th annual North Coast College & Career Expo is set for Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 5:30 p.m. at College of the Redwood, 7351 Tompkins Hill Road, Eureka.

The College & Career Expo is designed for 9th- to 12th-grade students and their parents who want to learn more about preparing for and applying to colleges, universities and trade schools - and how to pay for higher education. This event is the only college fair in Humboldt County and provides an opportunity for families to compare different educational options in a one-stop-shop since many of these campuses are over five hours away and can be a challenge to visit each one individually.

The evening will include 10 different workshops with something for everyone, from "College Planning 101" to "Understanding the Different College Systems: California Community Colleges, the California State University and the University of California."

Emblem sale

The Eureka Emblem Club will hold a large fundraising yard sale from Sept. 16 to 18 on Holly Street in Cutten. Hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 16 and 17 and Sept. 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (No early birds, please.)

Cleanup event

The city of Arcata Environmental Services Department invites the community to participate in Coastal Cleanup Month event on Sept. 25.

The Northcoast Environmental Center is celebrating over 40 years of coastal stewardship and has been hosting several cleanup events in September. The Sept. 25 starts at 10 a.m. at the Arcata Marsh. Every volunteer who signs in at the cleanup event will be entered into a weekly raffle to win fun prizes.

Coastal Cleanup events serve as an opportunity to collect data about the trash collected on streets and beaches. This data can unveil local waste patterns so that waste reduction solutions can be implemented in the community. If you cannot attend a Northcoast Environmental Center event, you can still record data individually. Go to https://yournec.org/trashtrackers to find out how to participate in this scientific research.

For more information about Coastal Cleanup Month, including specific details for the Arcata cleanup event, visit www.yournec.org/coastalcleanupmonth or email ivynecmail@gmail.com.
