Subaru is jumping into the electric car world with the all-new Solterra. Developed in partnership with Toyota, this fully electric SUV will arrive in 2022 as a 2023 model-year vehicle.
How Much Toyota Influence Will It Have?
The joint venture between Subaru and Toyota aims to capitalize on the individual strengths of both automakers, and we're excited to see the results. Subaru says the Solterra combines its "expertise in all-wheel-drive technology with Toyota's vehicle electrification technology." Not a bad combo.
A closer look at the Solterra reveals a resemblance to the Toyota bZ4X EV concept. The two vehicles are also similar underneath the sheetmetal, sharing a new platform developed specifically for electric vehicles. The relationship between the two vehicles could be similar to that of the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR 86, in which both models are mechanically related but have unique touches to set them apart.
How Much Range Will the Solterra Have?
Subaru has yet to release specs on the new Solterra. But we suspect its range will sit around 250-300 miles to keep up with its competitors.
Safety
Expect the Solterra to come standard with a nice array of driver assist features. These should include automatic emergency braking, lane departure and sway warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams.
