Mercedes is launching a flurry of electric vehicles under the EQ moniker, and one of the smaller entries is the EQB. This small crossover is expected to arrive in the U.S. in 2022 as a 2023 model-year vehicle.

Wait.Is This Just an Electric GLB SUV?

The new EQB is closely related to the Mercedes-Benz GLB. The EQB builds off the GLB's body structure, adapting it for use on an electric car. Like the GLB, the EQB features an 111-inch wheelbase and optional third-row seating.

Expect the EQB's interior to look very similar to that of its gas-powered sibling. However, as previewed by the Chinese-market EQB that has already debuted, it should feature a distinct exterior design with a more futuristic feel.

How Much Space Will the EQB Offer?

Expect the EQB to offer five seats in standard configuration. However, an anticipated optional third row should boost maximum passenger capacity to seven. Although Mercedes says the third row will offer enough space for people up to 5 feet 4 inches tall, at least on global models, it's likely to be a tough squeeze for many. Otherwise, expect a relatively roomy cabin on five-seater models as well as a spacious cargo area.

How Powerful Will It Be?

Considering that Mercedes hasn't yet released U.S. specs on the EQB, it's hard to say how much power it will produce. Globally, the EQB will be offered in a range of configurations, including front- and all-wheel drive models, with some making more than 268 hp. One thing's for sure: The EQB will be all-electric. Driving range will be somewhere north of 200 miles.
