NBA Top Shot was all the rage for a moment, but the traditional trading card industry won't relinquish the spotlight.
Not when a Tom Brady rookie card sold for $1.32 million.
The autographed 2000 Playoff Contenders Championship Ticket card was graded an eight (out of 10), while the signature received a 10. James Park, co-founder and CEO of FitBit, made the record purchase Thursday on PWCC Marketplace, an online auction house.
From NFL plays to college sports scores, all the top sports news you need to know every day.
"I lived in Boston for 10 years and so am a huge fan of Brady. The last Super Bowl win was just a mind-blowing accomplishment," Park, who is a known collector, said via a PWCC Instagram post. "I've also had a love of collecting cards since I was a kid. Given Brady's uncontested status as GOAT in football, this card is an important piece of sports history and of any collection and I'm incredibly excited to now own 1 of only 100 of Brady's best rookie card."

The same Brady card, graded a Mint 9 and a 10 autograph, sold for $400,100 two years ago. Park's purchase is believed to be a record for a football card, according to ESPN.
Brady, who spent the first 20 seasons of his career in New England, played the 2020 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and won his seventh championship.
