Sky News host Paul Murray says Republican Senator Mitt Romney is the "ultimate swamp creature" after he recently took aim at Donald Trump ahead of the former US president's upcoming second impeachment trial.

Mr Murray said the impeachment of Donald Trump after he has left the Oval Office is an "absurd situation".

"The reason this is to happen is because establishment Republicans want to guarantee that he can never run for president again," Mr Murray said.

Mr Romney recently took to US television to criticise Donald Trump's alleged involvement in inciting an insurrection on January 6.

"I believe that what is being alleged and what we saw, which is incitement to insurrection, is an impeachable offense," Mr Romney said.
