Waitrose & Partners is selling rosemary Christmas trees once again this year as shoppers look for more environmentally friendly Christmas decorations.

Set to be the must-have decoration this Christmas, the supermarket is stocking the alternative mini Christmas tree for just £15 this festive season.

The rosemary trees were a popular purchase last year as environmentally conscious consumers looked for a multi-purpose option that could be re-used - whether that's by planting them in the garden or gifting to foodie friends and family.

Standing at around 30cm in height, each rosemary tree is grown and pruned to resemble the shape of a Christmas tree. These aromatic miniature trees are, of course, edible and will give the home a distinct, refreshing fragrance too.

You can place your rosemary tree as a decoration in the living room, on the kitchen window sill, or even as a Christmas table centrepiece where guests can pick the tree's leaves to garnish their own festive meal.

It can even be planted outside when Christmas is over, so absolutely nothing goes to waste.

'Our customers are passionate about shopping in a more sustainable way, seeking out products that are kind to the environment and that help them to reduce their own waste, especially at Christmas,' says Waitrose Horticulture Buyer, Oliver O'Mara. 'Our Rosemary Christmas Trees aren't just for decoration, the rosemary tree's leaves can be used to flavour dishes over the holidays and then be planted outside when Christmas is over, so nothing goes to waste.'

Rosemary is the favoured garnish of choice for Waitrose shoppers at Christmas, making it into the top three best-selling fresh herbs, reveals Waitrose, with sales increasing by up to 200% over the festive season compared to the rest of the year.

Grown in Chichester, the trees have been specially selected for the supermarket, and the choice of rosemary was whittled down from a staggering 80 different varieties to ensure the perfect tree was chosen.

The trend for rosemary Christmas trees actually started in America. Their needle-like leaves make them the perfect alternative for the festive season and can be decorated to look just like their larger traditional counterparts.

Hotfoot it down to your nearest Waitrose to bag a tree, as it's guaranteed to sell fast.
