Armed police swoop on Bilston street following gunfire and 'machete' attack

A night of violence in Bilston resulted in a 'machete' attack and a gun being fired.

Armed police raced to the scene at 12.30 this morning (Sunday, July 14) as trouble erupted in Broad Street .

Luckily, no one is thought to have been injured by the gunfire but a woman suffered head injuries as a result of being hit with a weapon - believed to be a machete.

The victim, who is in her 30s, was rushed to hospital for treatment. Her injuries were not life-threatening.

A 36-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of wounding and is currently in police custody for questioning.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Police were called to reports of a disorder where a gun shot was fired in Broad Street, Bilston, at around 12.30am today.

"No-one is believed to have been injured by the gunfire but a casing has been recovered.

"A woman in her 30s was hit with what is believed to have been a machete and taken to hospital with head injuries which are not life-threatening.

"A 36-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of wounding and is currently in police custody for questioning."
