Ferrari's team principal, Frederic Vasseur, has admitted his bewilderment regarding the Scuderia's sudden surge of form at the Canadian Grand Prix after a lacklustre performance in Spain.

Charles Leclerc, grappling with Ferrari's upgraded package, endured a dismal 19th place in qualifying at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, failing to score any points.

Meanwhile, teammate Carlos Sainz, though initially a promising contender, struggled to maintain his position during the race due to the SF-23's inconsistency across different tyre compounds.

However, a marked turnaround took place in Canada, with both drivers displaying resilience despite challenging qualifying conditions. They stormed through the ranks, securing fourth and fifth positions, effectively outpacing Red Bull's Sergio Perez throughout the entire race.

When quizzed about the sudden improvement, Vasseur responded with a succinct "No." He went on to explain, "Nevertheless, we are steering our car's development in this direction to achieve consistency and make it more manageable for our drivers.

"We are gradually making progress, but it would be premature to draw definitive conclusions from a single event."

Prior to the race, there was a frantic scene surrounding Leclerc's vehicle as mechanics worked feverishly on the Monegasque's underfloor on the starting grid.

Shedding light on the cause for concern, Vasseur clarified, "We sought the FIA's authorization to replace the plank. There was some contact during the warm-up lap, and regulations prohibit part replacements without the green light."

The Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg is the next destination on the Formula 1 calendar, set to take place on Sunday, 2 July.
