Claims: The much-anticipated Spice Girls' reunion documentary has reportedly sparked a huge bidding war between the world's top streaming services

The much-anticipated Spice Girls' reunion documentary has reportedly sparked a huge bidding war between the world's top streaming services.

The iconic 90s band are set to appear in a one-off film, with Victoria Beckham returning to the fold after the rest of the group signed up.

And sources are claiming that even though a single minute of the documentary is yet to be filmed, the team behind it are already targeting the top global streaming platforms to reach the group's international fanbase.

An insider added it's 'unlikely' the film will be premiere on a UK channel such as BBC or ITV, with the team already seeing huge interest from some of the world's streaming services.

A source told The Sun: 'It's unlikely you'll be seeing this show on the BBC or ITV as competition is rife and it would cost too much.

'The global reach is very important as they have millions of fans around the world, who will be keen to see the fab five reunited.

'They also know that their British fans will go to any lengths to ensure they see their idols.'

MailOnline has contacted a representative for The Spice Girls for comment.

Last year it was first reported that Victoria will be joining her Spice Girls bandmates for the one-off documentary, after she declined to rejoin the group for their reunion tour in 2019.

According to The Sun, the series will be made by the team behind The Last Dance, the critically acclaimed hit Netflix series about basketball superstar Michael Jordan.

Speaking about The Last Dance, Mel B opened up about the series in an interview in Australia, saying: 'The director and the whole concept of how that was shot and filmed is really, really, really good. So we'll be doing our own version with them.'

The series will reportedly feature behind-the-scenes anecdotes, and document the band's rise to the top.

Giving a taste of what fans can expect, Mel B revealed: 'The rap in the Wannabe video, I actually wrote on the toilet while the other girls were doing the vocals.'

She continued: 'My kids go, 'Mummy, your music has come full circle', and I'm thinking, 'Ooh they're going to compliment me'. Then I get told, 'It's come full circle because now you're just vintage'. Old but good.'

The Mail On Sunday first revealed back in April that J. J. Abrams, who has directed hugely successful Star Wars and Star Trek movies, approached the girls with the idea for the film.

The documentary would tell the story of the band's rise to stardom in the mid-1990s and feature interviews and unseen material from their personal archives.

Abrams and his business partner, Hollywood movie director Jason Hehir, are now shopping the project around streaming giants including Netflix.

'The four girls have committed to it and it's happening,' said an insider. 'It has been developed and it's now going out to streamers as part of a bidding war.

'Victoria is open-minded about it which the others are really optimistic about, because previously she has flatly refused to take part in any kind of reunions.

'But this is high-end and, most importantly, won't require her to sing as she has insisted that she will never do so on stage again.'

Formed in 1994, the Spice Girls went on to sell more than 100 million records worldwide.

They had eight UK No 1s between 1996 and 1998 - including Wannabe and Spice Up Your Life - but effectively split up in 2000.

Victoria appeared in the Return Of The Spice Girls concert tour in 2007 but did not sign up for 2019's Spice World dates.

She did, however, appear with the band for the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics.

Abrams, 55, is regarded as one of Hollywood's top directors and his firm Bad Robot Productions is currently working on a reboot of the Superman movie franchise.

A source close to the documentary said: 'There have been similar projects about The Beatles and One Direction, but there is real excitement about this.

'It will give millions of Spice Girls fans an exclusive insight into life during those years.'
