Though the GameStop short squeeze took a while to finally reach its peak, the height of it played out in January of 2021.

So what's more surprising: that the "Gamestonks" rally happened over two years ago, or that they have already managed to pump out a movie about it called Dumb Money?
If you aren't familiar with the story, a group of retail stock investors did some research and thought the stock associated with the slowly-going-extinct video game store was undervalued, and through teamwork and Reddit board communication, they screwed corporate investors and triggered one of the biggest short squeezes in stock market history.
The small-investor theatrics caused hedge funds and other Wall Street short sellers to lose a whopping $6 billion dollars in a matter of days.
As it was all unraveling, the characters that were emerging and the quirky, stick-it-to-the-man story had many news outlets saying that the whole thing seemed like it was out of a movie. And someone heard that uttered time and time again and told themselves "they are exactly right, this is a movie."
So now, just over two years removed from it playing out in real life right in front of our eyes, we get to see a "based on a true story" film about the David-versus-Goliath stock market story, and the cast for Dumb Money is chalk full of well known actors and actresses.
Big name actors Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, Sebastian Stan, and Pete Davidson were all attached to the project early on and are set to star in the film.
The main YouTuber that story revolves around named Keith Gill (AKA Roaring Kitty) will be played by Dano, the always funny Seth Rogen will play a CEO of a hedge fund, Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev will be portrayed by Stan, and Davidson will play the brother of Keith Gill, the short squeeze leader.
Shailene Woodley, Anthony Ramos, Vincent D'Onofrio, Dane DeHaan, Myha'la Herrold, America Ferrera, Rushi Kota, Nick Offerman, and Talia Ryder are also cast in the movie and play in supporting roles.
The first trailer for the film looks like all of the on-screen talent will share plenty of screen time and appears to pretty well capture the rollercoaster ride of madness that occurred back in January of 2021.
