Activision revealed Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera is shutting down in just a few months.
At first launch, Caldera was an unpopular choice amongst players who wished for the return of Verdansk. Yet in recent months prior to the launch of Warzone Ranked, many players found themselves enjoying Caldera much more than Al Mazrah.
Now, Activision is shutting down Warzone Caldera in an attempt to bring their entire player base to Warzone Season 4. Although the new Ranked mode and Resurgence map, Vondel, received positive feedback, the updates do not compare to the nostalgia of Verdansk and Rebirth Island, or the movement on Caldera.
So, how long do players have on Caldera before it disappears forever?
Warzone Caldera shuts down on Sept. 21, 2023. Players will no longer have access to any original Warzone content, including their Caldera gameplay and inventories, but will retain purchased content from Modern Warfare (2019), Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard in each respective game.
In the absence of Caldera, the Call of Duty Staff promised "even more Warzone content across consoles and PC, as well as a new era of Battle Royale on the go with the launch of Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile."
The small hint at Warzone Mobile is a bright spot in the disappointing announcement. The game has launched in multiple countries abroad but has yet to come out in the United States.
