There's something about vintage clothing that really grabs people's attention. Maybe it's curiosity or the fact that it's so full of history, but for whatever reason, people love it.
@Charlotte Engel is a professional makeup artist and a clothing historian. She works at the New Cannan Museum and Historical Society in Connecticut, and she's got a very cool job - she gets to set up clothing for exhibits and to be photographed. In this video, she's setting up a wedding dress worn by a woman named Maria Hayward who married Clarence Burke back in 1874. Wow!

I love that Charlotte not only gives us the history of the woman who wore it, but also describes the dress. Maria and her husband lived in Ohio, but the dress was donated to the museum by her granddaughter in Connecticut. The dress is two pieces and has heavy decorative pleating and a ruched effect on the sleeves. She also compares the dress to other dresses from that era, and it's cool to see the others, too. The buttons on the dress are my favorite part of it!
I was surprised to find out there were only 10 comments - I think this dress and the history behind it is so interesting. Not to mention the dress is almost 150 years old but is in pristine condition! Several of the comments said simply, "Beautiful!" or the like. @Truman's Swans exclaimed, "Look at those sleeves!! The dress is stunning!!" I totally agree!
And I really liked @TexasSnow's suggestion, "Wow!! Is the whole gown in silk taffeta? I would love it if you did a series on how difficult it is to sew on various luxury fabric." I definitely hope to see more dresses and information from Charlotte!
