In or out? Social butterfly or misanthropic moth? Lively debate or quiet contemplation?

The concept of introvert/extrovert comes from Leo psychologist Carl Jung who classified people as two types; those that are invigorated by social interactions (extrovert) and those that find renewal through seclusion (introvert). The distinction between the two can be distilled as the preference between focusing on the outer or inner world, respectively.

Jung believed that none of us are expressly or completely extroverted or introverted, but that we do align more fully with one or the other attitude. The concept is expounded upon by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, a questionnaire that produces a personality inventory that classifies people as E or I, extrovert, or introvert.

Unsurprisingly, these two types of people are driven by and towards disparate energies. According to a recent study, "extroverts identified excitement as their driving emotion, with 74 percent getting excited at the prospect of a new social event."

In terms of broad strokes astrology, fire signs, who in general, identify excitement as their holy grail, are among the more extroverted while water signs, who identify depth as their driving force are more inclined to introversion.

House placement and birth time also play a part in whether a person will identify as introverted or extroverted. Dense planetary energy, especially the sun in the the twelfth house of the unconscious mind for instance, might produce an introverted personality type even if the person in question is a fire sign.

Whether a person has a day or night chart further speaks to the preference for the inner or outer world. If the sun is above the ascendant line in the birth chart (day chart) the person is more inclined to extroversion.

If the sun is below the ascendant (night chart) the person is more inclined to introversion. But which zodiac sign, especially in relationship to the ascendant, is the most extroverted of all? Read on to learn more.

Leo, the sign of the stage and the patron saint of performers, child stars and frontmen, is ruled by the sun, the most extroverted of heavenly bodies, and the largest spotlight in the cosmos.

Natives are oxygenated by interaction, enlivened by outside validation and made real through their relationships to others. Leo lords over the fifth house of play and pleasure, the fun house of flings, flights of fancy, theme parties, karaoke bars, love letters and finger paints. Fittingly, Leo folks like places and people that invoke this energy.

As fixed fire they want the fun to sustain and the more people they can conscript to the cause, the better. Leos can and will exhaust themselves trying to have a good time all the time and their FOMO is rivaled only by Aries.

Their natural extroversion can operate as a kind of contagion and at their best and brightest they encourage others to let loose, get free and shine without shame. Coincidentally, Leo's zodiac opposite, Aquarius, ranks as the most introverted.

It is thus no surprise that "Time's" list of the great extroverts of our time is positively rife with lion energy including big cats Margaret Thatcher (Leo moon), Bill Clinton (Leo sun), Muhammed Ali (Leo rising), Winston Churchill (Leo moon), and George W. Bush (Leo rising).

In the realm of entertainment, the natural province of Leo, notable extroverts include such live out loud lions as Madonna, Mae West, Lucille Ball, Louis Armstrong, Hulk Hogan, Jennifer Lopez, Slash, Whitney Houston and Mick Jagger.

To you Leo, and your sunshine day dream, born to rage, more the merrier, let's play charades joie de vivre; long may your manes shake, your social circle expand and your perennial party carry on.
