Water Lane Boathouse has been named one of the best bars in Europe

The simple pleasures, eh? And what pleasures are simpler than a pint in a beer garden when it's more than 15°C.

Pub beer gardens aren't uncommon but you don't want a glass of generic low-quality lager on concrete bench overlooking an eight-lane motorway. You deserve a good brew with a good view.

Look no further than these three fine Yorkshire beers gardens which travel guide Big7 has rated among the 25 best in the UK. At number six is The Gardeners Rest, Sheffield; followed by Water Lane Boathouse, Leeds at number 12 and the Pipe and Glass Inn, South Dalton, near Beverley.

Number one, by the way was The Watering Hole, Perranporth, Cornwall. But here's a bit more about the Yorkshire beer gardens to make the hotlist.

This community-run tavern in Neepsend has a labyrinthine beer garden by the river.

Big7 says: "It follows that community is at the heart of everything it does, from the beers on tap (sourced from the local Sheffield Brewery) to exhibitions showcasing works by local artists to lively music nights. Its beer garden is one of the quirkiest in the country: a flower-filled labyrinth of picnic tables, sculptures, vegetables, quirky sculptures and fireplaces overlooking the River Don."

A great example of urban regeneration is this sprawling bar in a former warehouse in Granary Wharf, Leeds.

Big7 says: "This much-loved bar boasts a prime location on the banks of the River Aire, overlooking Granary Wharf. Housed in an early 19th-century shipment warehouse, the bar sprawls across two floors, but its large and sun-filled beer garden is the star attraction.

"There's a good range of beers, wines, cocktails, and spirits (including a G&T menu) on offer, as well as delicious grub in the shape of sandwiches, loaded burgers and sourdough pizzas. The bar is the brainchild of the same people behind Belgrave Music Hall and Headrow House, so you can guarantee it will be a lively night out."

This Michelin starred gastropub is still a pub where you can buy a pint and drink it slowly in the beer garden among the herbs which are grown for the restaurant.

Big7 says: "Housed in what was once the gatehouse of Dalton Park, the country house-style restaurant boasts beautiful garden views and an exceptional menu, created by chef James Mackenzie.

"The newly-designed gardens only grow edible plants, herbs and shrubs, all of which feature on the menu. There are two lovely outdoor spaces to choose from: informal picnic benches at the front and seating on the terrace at the back."

Here's the full list.
