Louis Tomlinson has spoken of his devastation after his concert was halted by a terrifying hailstorm that injured his fans.

The former One Direction singer, 31, was due to perform at the Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre near Denver, Colorado, on Wednesday night. But the show had to be postponed when the freak hailstorm at the open-air venue left fans fleeing for safety.

There were reports afterwards that fans were wounded by the giant hailstones while some even suffered broken bones as they rushed for cover. The concert - part of Louis' Faith in the Future world tour - was delayed at first due to the adverse weather, but ended up being postponed later in the evening. The singer-songwriter later took to Twitter to send a message to his fans.

The dad of one wrote: "Devastated about the show tonight, hope everyone's ok, I'll be back! Even though we didn't play the show I felt all of your passion! Sending you all love!"

Fans who attended the show also took to social media to discuss what happened. "Tonight was the scariest night of my life," one wrote on Twitter.

"It started pelting people with hail at Red Rocks and my sister and I luckily found shelter under a sign. I am bleeding and have huge bumps on my head from the hail."

Another fan revealed she was forced to take a friend to get medical attention following the storm. "I am safe and at the hospital with someone that fell and needs x-rays on a possible fractured wrist," she wrote.

"There are possible head injuries, another broken hand, and a sprained ankle among the people I know."

The local fire department shared that they had taken seven people to local hospitals "with non-life-threatening injuries" while they had treated a further "70-80" attendees at the scene.

The show was initially delayed at around 8pm due to the weather but was later given the go ahead to start around 8.35pm. However, another delay was announced around 9.15pm and the show was postponed around 10.25pm.

The venue tweeted: "Tonight's show has officially been postponed. Please be safe exiting the amphitheatre - we'll have more information for ticket holders soon."

Louis' team said: "Unfortunately due to the current weather events in the area, tonight's show at Red Rocks has been postponed. All ticket holders will be updated in due course."

Some fans who were forced to flee the scene said they were left stranded after their vehicles were wrecked by the hailstorm. One fan said: "I know it's not the point, but my car is DESTROYED.

"I cried. There's so much damage to my car. That car is my everything."

Louis, meanwhile, is set to become an Uncle again after his sister Phoebe announced she was expecting. And last month it was reported that he and former 1D bandmates Niall Horan and Liam Payne reunited to make music together again.
