The story of Diablo IV only scratches the surface of what's possible in the game, providing tons of content and other things to do for players looking for the best ways to improve their character even after the credits roll. Players can always gather better gear and find fresh dungeons to create new, exciting challenges. From reaching higher levels to participating in endgame events, players still have plenty to explore.
Once players beat the campaign at least once, they can skip the story if they start over with a new character. This makes it easy to have multiple characters of different classes without going through the same cutscenes and quests that could become tedious if done repeatedly. Those looking to tackle endgame content with their friends in Diablo 4's co-op will have a better time forming party combos with different classes without worrying about the story.

There are still plenty of places to discover on the map, even when players finish the main story, including Strongholds, the Fields of Hatred, and the remaining Altars of Lilith. The Fields of Hatred are where players can try and fight each other in PvP for special rewards. Two PvP zones provide unique items for defeating human players called Seeds of Hatred, which may be converted into Red Dust for extra, rare gear in Diablo 4.
When players get to Act 4 of the story, they can unlock a Mount through a side quest in Kyovashad that helps them travel faster to new places around Sanctuary that they may not have been able to visit before.
Strongholds are enemy-controlled bases with additional bosses, side quests, vendors, and dungeons that open up as players liberate these areas from Lilith's forces. These are good places to earn more XP and unlock Waypoints for better fast travel. Altars of Lilith in Diablo 4 boost players' stats, increase the number of Murmuring Obols they can have and give other bonuses that make it much faster to level up endgame characters.
An ancient piece of nature called the Tree of Whispers is located in the Hawezar region, giving players the "Whispers of the Dead" side quest as soon as the main story concludes. This quest asks players to collect 10 Grim Favors by killing enemies, completing dungeons, or participating in events around Sanctuary. Traveling back to the Tree after gaining these Favors gives players a reward cache for a collection of random, rare items in Diablo 4.
Players are locked into returning to the Tree of Whispers in Diablo 4 after gaining 10 Grim Favors, but the quest resets after each trip back to Hawezar. Simply accomplishing more tasks around the map acts like bounties the player may pursue additional caches. Some events take time to reappear, though, so players, unfortunately, might have to wait for opportunities to gain Grim Favors with World Bosses or Helltides.
Paragon Boards in Diablo 4 are paths with multiple Nodes and Glpyh sockets that give players more passive buffs for their characters, expanding builds further. By the time players finish the story, their character might be close to level 40, depending on how much XP they've farmed, but these Boards only unlock after getting to level 50. From that point, every 25% progress toward the next level grants players a Paragon Point to spend on a Board's path.
Every class has nine Paragon Boardsto explore, with the first giving them a solid introduction to this system for the first few levels after 50. Players will find Legendary Nodes along certain paths in Diablo 4 that make their character builds even stronger. Glyphs are dropped when players overcome Nightmare Dungeons and may be fitted into sockets that empower multiple Nodes along the path of any Paragon Board players choose to place it in.
Nightmare Dungeons are transformed from regular dungeons that already exist on the map using Nightmare Sigils, but only on World Tier 3 difficulty or higher.
Enemies may feel easier and easier to beat in Diablo 4 as players start flushing out their Paragon Boards, making Capstone Dungeons worth taking on to unlock higher-difficulty World Tiers. These dungeons are difficult and take much longer to finish, demanding players be high enough to take on the intimidating bosses within. World Tiers 3 & 4 offer much better rewards, including a greater gear level for players to access these difficulty settings.
Areas on the map named Helltides in Diablo 4 become available on World Tier 3 or higher, causing regions of Sanctuary to become invested with invading enemies of Hell for a limited time. Helltides show up randomly but offer Tortured Chests in these spaces for almost guaranteed Legendary gear or better. These cursed regions are great for farming XP and gathering high-level items that otherwise would not be seen in normal dungeons or Strongholds.
Beyond Nightmare Dungeons, Helltides, or Capstone Dungeons in Diablo 4, World Bosses are the greatest foes players can come across in Diablo 4 for the largest rewards. Three World Bosses can appear on the map: Ashava the Pestilent, Avarice the Gold Cursed, and Wandering Death, Death Given Life. These enemies are rare, only spawning in Sanctuary every six hours.
A World Boss appears based on a Timer that notifies all players on a server 15 minutes before it shows up, giving enough time to track down exactly where in Sanctuary it will spawn.
World Bosses are massive foes that are hard to defeat without multiple people dealing damage, making these creatures an event in any server. Taking down a World Boss causes it to drop a ton of loot, including more than one Legendary item in most cases. For this reason, a fight against a World Boss is one of the best things players can do after Diablo IV's story since they produce many high-quality items.
