The critically-acclaimed Batman: Arkham trilogy is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch this fall. Developer Rocksteady famously broke the long-standing stigma surrounding licensed Batman video games with the Batman: Arkham series, which earned high praise from critics and players alike for its blistering stealth and combat gameplay, dark and twisted plot that spoke to the central themes of DC's fabled Dark Knight, and stellar voice acting from franchise mainstays like Mark Hamill as the sinister Joker and the late Kevin Conroy as Batman himself.

The saga began in 2009's surprise hit Batman: Arkham Asylum, which trapped players inside the titular mental health facility as Batman chased after the Joker and a host of other foes in a night full of diabolical twists and turns. Then came 2010's equally impactful Batman: Arkham City, which retained the Arkham gameplay formula while switching the setting to a prison city filled with various criminals and supervillains for players to hunt down. Finally, 2015's Batman: Arkham Knight finished the trilogy by allowing players to step behind the wheel of the Batmobile for tank-like vehicular battles and speedy chases through Gotham's rain-soaked streets.

Soon Nintendo Switch owners will get to experience the thrills and chills of the Batman: Arkham series, as all three of Rocksteady's dark superhero action games are being ported to the console this fall in the form of Batman: Arkham Trilogy. This was announced during today's Nintendo Direct livestream with a pulse-pounding trailer that highlights some of the series' most memorable moments. All the supplementary DLC from Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight will be included in this collection, but WB Montreal's Batman: Arkham Origins is notably absent.

Before this announcement, the Batman: Arkham series had largely stayed away from Nintendo consoles. In fact, the series has only appeared on Nintendo hardware a total of three times: an updated re-release of Arkham City for the short-lived Nintendo Wii U console, the aforementioned Batman: Arkham Origins, and the spin-off title Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate on both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

This will change when Batman: Arkham Trilogy launches on the Nintendo Switch this fall. The Batman: Arkham series is highly regarded by many as some of the greatest superhero games of all time, and Rocksteady will soon continue its DC gaming universe with next year's Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. In the meantime, Switch owners will get to play through all three of Rocksteady's gritty Gotham City adventures later this year.

Batman: Arkham Trilogy will launch on Nintendo Switch in Fall 2023.
