Snacking is usually thought of as an unhealthy habit that should be avoided, however, this is not always the case.
Instead of denying yourself the simple pleasure of a snack to satisfy your hunger between meals, you could try to make sure you are doing it in a healthy and nutritious way.
Eleanor McClelland, Head of Food at Graze, has come up with two simple ways to help you become a healthy snacker.
Choose the right snacks
To be healthier, you should switch out any processed and sugar-filled snacks, such as sweets and crisps, with something more nutritious, like fruit and dark chocolate.
"Snacking can be a really great way to help meet your nutrient requirements for the day," Eleanor explains. "For instance, if you are looking for more fibre in your diet then choosing snacks that include whole grains, nuts, seeds, fruits, veg and beans/pulses can be a really great way to help towards getting your daily recommended fibre."
Plan your snacks
You should try to plan your snack breaks around your day. This can help make sure you don't overeat during meal times, causing you to feel over-full, and can help you pick healthier meal choices.
"Plan your snacking in advance, as it is easy to make less healthy choices when you're already really hungry and time-pressured," Eleanor recommends.
"The best tip is to listen to your body and respond to the hunger cues, so if you get peckish mid-morning and mid-afternoon have the healthy snacks ready for those times to see you through."
