Man Utd striker targets Kylian Mbappe and Victor Osimhen

Manchester United have been given the opportunity to go back in for a world-class forward Erik ten Hag would love to sign after one of their Champions League rivals completed a huge U-turn on his future.

Ten Hag currently has Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial as centre-forward options in his squad after loanee Wout Weghorst headed back to parent club Burnley. However, Rashford likes to play on the left wing and cut inside on his right foot. This, coupled with the fact Martial is prone to injuries, will force Man Utd to spend big money on a reliable goalscorer this summer.

The Red Devils have been linked with a host of top stars, including Kylian Mbappe, Victor Osimhen, Randal Kolo Muani, Goncalo Ramos and Rasmus Hojlund.

Recently, Atalanta star Hojlund has looked like the player who could arrive at Old Trafford to fill their striker void. Man Utd have been tipped to bid £52million for him after his Denmark team-mate Christian Eriksen admitted he 'can see' the Serie A man playing for them in the Premier League.

However, Man Utd only decided to go for Hojlund after finding out that preferred target Osimhen would be too expensive to sign.

In May, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis was asked about potentially selling the 24-year-old ahead of next season. He replied: "I will not sell Victor Osimhen this summer - no way!"

Then, on June 5, TEAMtalk exclusively revealed how both Man Utd and Chelsea had cooled their interest in Osimhen after discovering Napoli would demand a whopping £150m for him.

But there has been a major twist in the saga. When announcing Rudi Garcia as Napoli's managerial replacement for Luciano Spalletti, De Laurentiis revealed his new stance over Osimhen's future.

"We already talked to Osimhen before the Scudetto celebration, so we already have a basic agreement on a two-year extension of his contract," he said (via the Daily Mirror).

"I have said for a while that Osimhen has to stay. Then, if an offer came in that I could not refuse for the good of Napoli, then we would consider it, as is only natural."

Man Utd will be delighted to hear that De Laurentiis might be open to selling the Nigerian. He would be a perfect addition to Ten Hag's attack, having scored 31 goals in 39 outings last season.

After Man Utd and Chelsea originally pulled out of the race to sign Osimhen, he was soon linked with moves to either Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern.

But the player has made it clear he would ideally like to shine in the Premier League next if given the opportunity. In March, he said: "I think playing in one of the top five leagues in the world (Serie A) is an amazing feeling for me.

"A lot of people worldwide consider the Premier League as the best and the strongest league but now I'm in one of the best leagues in the world which is the Italian Serie A.

"I'm working so hard to make sure that I achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League some day but like I said, it's a process and I just want to keep on this momentum and continue to do well."

Osimhen's idol is Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, which is one of the reasons why he likes the Prem so much.

This has led to rumours that Osimhen may favour a move to Chelsea over Ten Hag's side. However, the fact Man Utd can offer him Champions League football next season and Chelsea can't will surely push Osimhen in the direction of the north west.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag has reportedly had enough of a senior Man Utd player as the club are actively seeking a replacement.
