Electronic Arts, better known as EA to the majority of gamers, will be dividing the company up into two different organizations. In a letter from EA CEO Andrew Wilson that was shared with employees today, Wilson states that the company organizations will now be split up into EA Entertainment and EA Sports.
EA Sports of course is the longtime branding for all of its sports games like Madden, FIFA, NCAA Football and more. Although FIFA will no longer be called FIFA as the company decided last year to rename the franchise to EA Sports FC. EA Entertainment will be the home for blockbuster IP. Which will include everything from franchises like Star Wars to the publisher's famed first-person shooters like Battlefield and Apex Legends. Although this doesn't include the mobile titles as they has been sunset.
Today's announced change is a step forward in EA's goals to be more creatively innovative. Giving the leads of its many studios more "creative ownership and financial accountability." Which Wilson says will allow them to make faster and more insightful decisions around development of future games.
Wilson doesn't dive too much into the company evolution with this announcement. But he does highlight a few key results expected to come out of the change.
Notably that it will be a driver for accelerating business. In addition to growth, and long-term value for EA employees and the players of its games. From a player standpoint, a main takeaway here is that this could lead to improved releases. Not to mention an improvement in the communities that revolve around those games.
In splitting up the company into two organizations, each organization gets a new leader. With Laura Miele being appointed as President of EA Entertainment, and Cam Weber as President of EA Sports. Wilson says that both will report to him. But the division of leadership between the two could also help with the division of responsibilities.
