Marnus Labuschagne was booed for claiming a catch against Ollie Robinson.

England's famous Barmy Army supporter group doesn't need any extra fuel to relentlessly sledge an opposition during a match.

But? unfortunately for Marnus Labuschagne, the Aussie fielder provided it when he attempted to claim a clear non-catch on day four at Edgbaston.

The crowd was already fired up and the noise inside the Birmingham stadium reached deafening levels ?at various stages as England pressed their Ashes advantage and the tourists desperately hunted for wickets.

The hosts were already 7-228 in their second innings when tail-ender Ollie Robinson gloved a fierce Josh Hazlewood delivery which popped up in the air.

Labuschagne, at short mid-wicket , dived forward and clasped the ball in his right hand, but then turned it to slide the ball along the turf.

The on-field umpires sent the decision upstairs and it took only one replay for the third umpire to confirm the catch was not genuine, and Robinson would stay at the crease.

?Unsurprisingly, the Barmy Army wasted no time getting stuck in.

They started a chant, "same old Aussies, always cheating", likely referring to the infamous 2018 Cape Town ball-tampering scandal.

Steve Smith, David Warner, and Cameron Bancroft were all handed lengthy suspensions from cricket after the latter was caught with sandpaper in his pocket while fielding.?

The Aussies were sledged relentlessly last time they toured England in 2019.?

The chant could also have been referring to an incident during last week's World Test Championship final, where Cameron Green took a catch that India claimed was not clean.?

Former Aussie Test captain Mark Taylor said it clearly wasn't a catch from Labuschagne.?

"?If he's got that, that's a super effort. I didn't think he was going to get there," Taylor said in commentary.

"?Not out given, and I think rightly not given. I usually err on the side of the fielder with these ones but he used a bit of the ground to control the ball, fingers never fully got underneath the ball.

"He didn't quite secure the ball."?
