The Pac-12 is set to look a lot different after this upcoming college football season ends.
USC and UCLA are set to leave the Pac-12 in 2024 which will be a massive blow to the conference. There's a chance that SMU and San Diego State join the conference to replace them, but that's just a rumor right now.
With the former two leaving, it leaves a gaping hole in the conference, one that ESPN's Paul Finebaum doesn't think will ever be filled. In fact, he thinks the conference will collapse in the next few years because of it.
"I don't believe so. I don't know how it can (last), Greg," Finebaum said, (first transcribed by On3). "Because the situation is so fragile right now. The leadership is better than it was. It's still not very good. And, you know, I think you give the new commissioner, George Kliavkoff, a pass because maybe a year, a year and a half ago, his predecessor literally ran this thing into the ground. But he's had enough time and I think, so far, you have to give him a failing grade. I do not believe the Pac-12 can exist."
If Finebaum's prediction comes to pass, schools like Oregon and Utah will have to find new conferences to play in.
There's at least a decent chance that the only main conferences across college sports in 2026 will be the ACC, SEC, and Big Ten.
