Liverpool will push to sign a Bayern Munich midfielder at Jurgen Klopp's behest, with a report revealing when a difficult-looking transfer to Anfield could take shape.

Perhaps the biggest issue to blight Liverpool's season was a collective loss of form in midfield. Only Stefan Bajcetic and Thiago Alcantara performed to their usual standard, though both saw their seasons heavily disrupted through injury.

The likes of Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will leave as free agents. Arthur Melo has returned to Juventus after his loan spell concluded, while Leighton Clarkson has joined Aberdeen outright after impressing on loan.

Alexis Mac Allister has arrived in a bargain £35m move from Brighton. However, the Argentine World Cup winner will not be alone in revamping Klopp's midfield this summer.

Liverpool hold varying degrees of interest in the likes of Manu Kone, Khephren Thuram, Romeo Lavia, Gabri Veiga and Ryan Gravenberch. According to the Mirror, a renewed push to sign the latter will soon take place.

Gravenberch, 21, moved from Ajax to Bayern Munich just one year ago, though a frustrating first season in Germany has cast doubt on his long-term future in Bavaria.

The Dutch international racked up just five starts for Bayern. That led to Gravenberch telling De Telegraaf he'd consider a premature move away if it resulted in more regular gametime.

"It may be that there are plans with me," said Gravenberch.

"I haven't really talked to the coach about that yet, that will come after the [Under-21] European Championship when I'm back from Georgia and Romania. Then we will see how it is."

He added: "I just want to play more, preferably at Bayern Munich. And otherwise at a club where I play 100 per cent.

"That is my preference, because I don't want to have another year like the one I've had now. One season like that is good, I really learned a lot. But I just want to play football."

Sky Sports previously reported Liverpool made a 'strong pitch' to Gravenberch's camp back in April. The player was deemed receptive to Liverpool's efforts, though subsequent reports claimed Gravenberch is going nowhere.

Indeed, both Fabrizio Romano and BILD's Christian Falk claimed Bayern do not want to sell.

However, the Mirror now report Liverpool and Klopp aren't giving up, with the Reds 'set to back Jurgen Klopp's wishes of his transfer' for Gravenberch.

In positive news for Liverpool, it's stated Bayern are set to 're-evaluate' Gravenberch's situation once he returns from international duty at the European Under-21 Championships. The tournament will take place between June 21 to July 8.

Liverpool appear determined to add Gravenberch to their ranks and the player is keen to move if regular gametime is assured.

However, a move still requires a major climbdown from Bayern who thus far have maintained they'll not sell the player outright this summer.

The situation should become a whole lot clearer in the week or two following the Netherlands' campaign at the U21 Euros.
