London bus drivers were set to strike this June, following walkouts by train drivers earlier this month which left some of the capital's biggest stations deserted.

Further transport disruption is also incoming as rail unions warned that unless an agreement is reached, train strikes could 'drag on for up to five years', and Heathrow security staff are due to walk out for 31 days this summer.

The decision by more than 1,700 bus drivers to take industrial action followed months of discontent, which saw strikes in multiple sectors, including ambulance staff, junior doctors, nurses and passport office workers.

However, strikes are always subject to change during negotiations.

So, are the strikes still on?

Here's what you need to know.

The next London bus strike was scheduled for Tuesday, June 20 and Wednesday, June 21, followed by another strike on Tuesday, June 27 and Wednesday, June 28.

However, according to the TfL strikes page, 'Strikes planned on Arriva London North bus services in June have been suspended.'

While strikes are now suspended, they were due to take place on routes operated by Arriva London North.

Night buses were due to run as normal on Monday, June 19 and Monday, June 26 - but there would have been no night buses at all on affected routes on strike days.

You can use TfL's journey planner to plan all journeys.

The 1,700 plus bus drivers, who are members of Unite, have previously rejected a seven per cent pay increase - which the union claims is effectively a 'real terms pay cut' due to inflation.

Drivers start on pay rates of £13.65 an hour, which they report they cannot afford to live on in London.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: 'Arriva is an extremely wealthy company but it has got its priorities all wrong. It needs to be concentrating on paying its workers fairly rather than providing the German government with huge dividends.'

Arriva is owned by Deutsche Bahn, one of the largest transport companies in the world and which the union says is effectively owned by the German government. Unite says: 'During the last 10 years, Arriva's UK bus division has paid £560 million to Deutsche Bahn in Germany in profit transfers.'
