While basic legendary and sacred weapons and gear can get you far in Diablo 4, eventually, you will desire gear that is even stronger. This is primarily because the enemies and dungeons around Sanctuary are getting tougher and your current gear might not be performing like it once was. In this case, you will need Ancestral Legendary weapons and gear in Diablo 4, which is only lootable after you have completed a specific requirement.
Ancestral Legendary gear is the final rarity in Diablo 4. It's a step up from Sacred Legendary gear, which you can start looting after you have made it to World Tier 3 following the completion of the main story. Ancestral items are unlocked in a similar way, but it will take you much longer to complete the requirement to start looting them. I will explain more about Ancestral Gear in Diablo 4 in the guide below.
The first step you need to complete before you can even think about acquiring Ancestral items in Diablo 4 is to unlock World Tier 4 - Torment. This World Tier is unlocked after you have completed the Fallen Temple Capstone Dungeon, which has a level recommendation of 70. While you can complete the dungeon at lower levels, this usually requires you to be in a full party with higher-level players.
Either way, once you have reached World Tier 4 and are playing on it, you will be eligible to receive Ancestral Gear as drops. These drops will come in the same way as any other gear in Diablo 4, with bosses and completing Grim Favor quests being the best ways of acquiring Ancestral items. Of course, you have a chance to receive an Ancestral item as a drop from any enemy in the world, so the more you play and slay enemies, the more drops you will see.
I recommend going through as many Helltide events as you can, completing Nightmare dungeons, and continuing to do Grim Favors if you want to expedite the process of receiving Ancestral gear.
