A large-scale search and rescue operation has recommenced for a man missing at Lamington National Park in the Gold Coast hinterland.

Rory Lane, 26, was last seen walking with a friend around the West Canungra Creek circuit shortly before 5pm on Saturday.

A search by Queensland Police, State Emergency Services and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services on Sunday failed to find Mr Lane.

Gold Coast police Chief Superintendent Craig Hanlon said the search effort started again early on Monday.

"We understand he has no physical ailments but he wouldn't have been prepared for two nights overnight in Canungra," he said.

"He doesn't have a phone on him. He had a backpack but we understand there wasn't sufficient food or additional clothing in the backpack, so we do have concerns for his health and we want to try to locate him today."

Canungra reached a low of 4 degrees Celsius overnight.

Mr Lane is described as Caucasian, 175 centimetres tall with brown hair a blue eyes.

He was wearing a grey jumper and backpack.

Anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen Mr Lane is being urged to contact police.

"Even the smallest detail may help us," Chief Superintendent Craig Hanlon said.

"We've Polair, Rescue 500 [helicopters], SES is helping us as well.

"We'll do a coordinated grid search of the location so we go through and mark off sections as we go through."
