Bedford's state-of-the-art brewery, Brewpoint, opened in 2020 and is the perfect place to enjoy a cold pint. The independent beer-maker offers guided tours, providing an insight into the process behind the beer.
I took part in the tour with my friend on Friday, June 9, starting at 3.30pm. We were in a group with just two others and led by tour guide, Tim, who provided us each with a high-vis vest and a headset so we could hear him in the noisier areas of the brewery.
Tim was the expert in all things Brewpoint and beer and took us step-by-step through the process that goes into making Brewpoint's great selection of ales and lagers. He was full of knowledge about the brewing process and even provided us with some barley and hops to smell.
During the tour, which lasted just under an hour, we were given plenty of detailed information and details about Brewpoint, including the history of the brand as Charles Wells brewery. I found it incredibly interesting and the group had plenty of questions which Tim had all of the answers for.

Despite the heat inside the brewery on a Friday with temperatures upwards of 25C, the tour was a great experience. The final part brought much-needed cold beers in an airconditioned private room, the Brewers room.
We were presented with a tray of six different Brewpoint beers, ranging from a dry lager, to fruitier pale ales and IPAs. Tim took us through each of the beers, giving us a great deal of information and allowing us time to savour each of the beers in the selection.
While there were some I wasn't keen on, particularly Inkwell, which is similar to Guinness but has a much longer lasting taste, I was pleasantly surprised by others. The taproom also provides a great place to chill out with a beer and a bite to eat after the tour.
The whole experience costs just £20 and includes a full tour, six 3rd pint pours and a pint glass to take home. It was great value for money and I would definitely recommend it, whether that's with a group of friends, work colleagues or family.
