What Remains of Edith Finch is receiving a steep, limited-time discount on the PlayStation Store.
Developed by Giant Sparrow (as one of only two titles to its name) and published by Annapurna Interactive, What Remains of Edith Finch was originally dropped in 2017, with spread-out releases across eighth and ninth-generation platforms over the next five years. It is a first-person exploration game, following the titular teenage girl as she visits her ancestral Washington state home after a long absence, slowly discovering the reason behind her status as the last surviving member of her family. The game received critical acclaim for its vignette-like story, sense of immersion, and graphical presentation, even winning Best Narrative at the Game Awards 2017.

As can be seen on the PlayStation Store, What Remains of Edith Finch is now being sold at a measly $4.99, compared to its usual price tag of $19.99. Given the store's cross-generational nature, it only takes one purchase to grant access to both the PlayStation 4 and 5 versions of Edith Finch, which should make it easier for game collectors who want to fill out their libraries for both consoles. The game is also available to play for Extra and Premium subscribers on PlayStation Plus. This deal is currently active at time of writing, but will only last until June 22nd.
Notably, this isn't the first time Sony has sold What Remains of Edith Finch at a discount, and it isn't even the best deal it's been subjected to. No bargain is better than a freebie after all. Still, this deal shouldn't be taken too lightly. While finding PlayStation 4 games on the cheap isn't excruciatingly difficult these days, finding a PlayStation 5 title for such a steal is extremely rare, but this comes as no surprise when one considers the console's newness. It should be interesting to see what effect this deal will have on the game's lifetime sales.
Given Edith Finch's multi-award-winning status, putting it on sale like this is a no-brainer. While sales numbers for the game have not been disclosed, this is nonetheless a great way to generate more revenue and expand the audience of this spooky classic, whether it be by drawing in new players who have never heard of it before, or already interested consumers who refrained for any number of reasons.
