Warning: Major Spoilers For Extraction 2 Below!Extraction 2's main villains are a Georgian crime syndicate dubbed the Nagazi, but does this group have any basis in reality? Just like the original movie, Extraction 2 features a minimum of plot and a maximum of action. The sequel gives Chris Hemsworth's Tyler Rake some time to recover from the near-fatal injuries he acquired in Extraction's ending, but from the moment he picks up an assault rifle and heads off on his latest rescue mission, it rarely pauses for breath.

Extraction 2 finds Rake breaking his former sister-in-law Ketevan (Tinatin Dalakishvili) and her children out of a Georgian prison. The issue is she's married to Davit Radiani (Tornike Bziava), who is a founding member of the Nagazi, a Georgian paramilitary and crime outfit that inspires cult-like devotion from its members. When Rake kills Davit during the prison extraction, his brother Zarab (Tornike Gogrichiani) vows vengeance and mobilizes the Nagazi after Rake and his team, leading to carnage across both Georgia and Austria.

Idris Elba's Extraction 2 character Alcott is the one who approaches Rake about this particular rescue, after being hired by Rake's ex-wife Mia (Olga Kurylenko). Alcott offers a complete history of the Nagazi, including how Davit and Zarab graduated from petty crime to running a billion-dollar drug empire so powerful they essentially run the country. A briefing reveals they also wiped out much of the Armenian mafia during their rise to the top. While co-producer and screenwriter Joe Russo no doubt drew inspiration from the real-life Georgian mafia when crafting Extraction 2's villains, the Nagazi themselves are not a real gang.

Extraction 2 spends some time on the backstory of Zurab and Davit, revealing they fled a civil war as children and were forced to turn to crime to survive. Religion also played a role in their upbringing, and as Alcott explains to Rake, "They believed they were soldiers, chosen by God." Continuing this religious theme, the name Nagazi translates to "Shepherd," with Davit and Zurab having their own flock of loyal soldiers that follow their every command without question.

Extraction 2 doesn't spend much time exploring how the Nagazi's inner structure works, and they are - in essence - fodder that Zurab throws at Rake and his team. Zurab firmly believes in God, however, and even manages to stage the final showdown between himself and Rake in a church. Zurab makes for a threatening villain in Extraction 2, but there's little doubt about who is going to win the final battle.
