Giant Purple Toad Den - Across From Hogwarts

Giant Purple Toads are one of the 13 magical beasts available for you to find and capture in Hogwarts Legacy. Their dens can be pinpointed to several locations across the in-game map, primarily near wetlands and bodies of water. After completing Deek's quest entitled The Elf, the Nab-Sack, and the Loom, students will need to capture these beasts in their natural habitats, per Professor Howin's assignment, and nurture them within the Vivarium in the Room of Requirement. With great care, Giant Purple Toads will provide Toad Warts to brew potions and upgrade gear, but they must first be caught.

Giant Purple Toads leave little to the imagination as they appear exactly as their name implies. They are docile beasts with a curious streak, but they will flee if they sense an intruder near their den, much like Nifflers in Hogwarts Legacy. While some may hesitate to approach these beasts due to their resemblance to Dugbogs, Giant Purple Toads will not attack witches and wizards. In fact, they can be difficult to keep up with as they flee from potential foes, so spells like Levioso, Glacius, and Arresto Momentum will prove the most effective when entering their dens and attempting to capture them with the nab-sack.

To locate Giant Purple Toad dens, you can open the map and zoom in to reveal areas that are pinpointed with pawprint stamps. Each of the stamps represents a den that can be accessed to eventually capture all 13 magical beasts.

The most accessible Giant Purple Toad den can be found just East of Hogwarts across the Black Lake, the initial location in which you completed the Lost Astrolabe Quest in Hogwarts Legacy. The den resides beneath a bridge near Aranshire where Dugbogs linger, so it may be necessary to clear the area before attempting to capture a Giant Purple Toad.

Flip a Dugbog on its back by casting Flipendo, rendering the beast more vulnerable to additional attacks.

The next location where you can catch Giant Purple Toads is in the Western Region of the Forbidden Forest. Notorious for the myriad enemies lurking within, the Forbidden Forest can be accessed relatively early to collect Potion Ingredients in Hogwarts Legacy, but some areas of the forest pose a greater risk for danger than others.

In the process of completing the Brother's Keeper quest, which has a recommended level of 17, students are likely to pass through the location of the forest's Giant Purple Toad den. While the beasts are not dangerous, it may be difficult to capture them if enemies are nearby.

Use Chinese Chomping Cabbages to target and defeat nearby foes without entering battle.

Further into the Northern Regions of Hogwarts Legacy, another Giant Purple Toad den can be found between Upper Hogsfield and North Ford Bog. This location is relatively quiet, so you should have no problem capturing beasts here.

Make sure to cast Revelio and scan the area for any Field Guide Pages and Merlin Trials that can be completed nearby.

The toughest area to catch Giant Purple Toads is the South Sea Bog den, which is practically crawling with enemies, including Inferi and Dugbogs. This can pose a great threat if you have come unprepared, but defeating these foes is a great way to obtain Stench of the Dead and Dugbog Tongue in Hogwarts Legacy, both necessary ingredients to brew potions.

To pass through the area and reach the den quickly, however, Hogwarts Legacy players can always equip their broom, as demonstrated by YouTuber Trophy Tom.
