Will the New England Patriots win the DeAndre Hopkins Sweepstakes?
On Thursday, the Pro Bowl wide receiver went to Foxborough to visit Gillette Stadium and the Patriots. It was part of a few scheduled visits the free agent wide receiver has set up on the heels of his release from the Arizona Cardinals. It sounds like things went pretty well, and according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the team is making a move for him.
"The Patriots are making a push for Hopkins," Howe wrote. "He has departed Gillette Stadium, but is still local."
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler added, "DeAndre Hopkins and the Patriots have finished a Thursday visit that started early in the morning and went well into the afternoon, per sources. Definitely intrigue from player and team coming out of it. Whether that results in a deal now or in future remains unclear."
DeAndre Hopkins has totaled 11,298 career receiving yards and 71 career receiving touchdowns across his 10-year NFL career. Fun fact: Those 11,298 yards are more than any Patriot receiver in franchise history. The franchise's receiving yards leader is the great Stanley Morgan, who recorded 10,352 yards in his celebrated career in New England.
So it appears that, for now, the race is on for DeAndre Hopkins but the Patriots might have found a way to make an impact.
