T?he Matildas have responded to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's claim there will be a race to declare a new public holiday if the Aussie team wins the FIFA Women's World Cup.

Speaking to The Daily Aus, ?the PM reflected on his promise last year to consider a public holiday of the Socceroos won the Men's World Cup. Now with the Women's World Cup approaching next month, he was asked the same.

"It's up to each state and territory to designate public holidays," Albanese said. "But rest assured - should the Matildas win the World Cup on home soil I reckon there will be a race by Premiers to declare a public holiday."

"Your move," the publication added, tagging all the premiers of the states and territories of Australia, including Chris Minns, Daniel Andrews, Annastacia Palaszczuk, Roger Cook, Peter Malinauskas, Jeremy Rockliff, Natasha Fyles and Andrew Barr.

The national women's soccer team responded with one simple word: "Bet", adding a handshake emoji to seal the deal.

"?@matildas have more of a chance of winning too let's face it," said one commenter.

However, not everyone was so eager about the possibility of another public holiday.?

"Too many [public holidays] already. Full time hospitality workers need a life too," said one commenter.

"I want them to win as much as anyone but as a business with 100 clients another public holiday for them to pay to their staff will hurt," added one small business owner.

The Matildas will kick off the opening match of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Up ?in a clash against the Republic of Ireland at CommBank Stadium on July 20, 2023.
