New Zealand authorities have netted a record methamphetamine haul hidden in maple syrup bottles from Canada.

Almost three quarters of a ton of meth was picked up at a rural Auckland address in January, and announced on Thursday.

Police said the meth has a street value of $NZ250 million ($A227 million), and is equivalent to the total NZ usage of the drug for almost a year.

"Had this shipment been distributed across New Zealand it would have caused immense harm to the vulnerable communities these criminal groups were preying upon," commissioner Andy Coster said.

He said the sting involved law enforcement from Australia, New Zealand and Canada intercepting drugs intended for both Australia and NZ.

Six men have been arrested in relation to the seizure.
