Star Wars: Outlaws Creative Director "Feels Great" After Red Dead 2 Comparisons

Star Wars: Outlaws was announced during the Xbox Games Showcase last week, an exciting open-world game set between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi in which you take on the role of lovable scoundrel Kay Vess. We then got our first look at gameplay during Ubisoft's latest showcase, which showed off the game's stealth systems, reputation mechanic, and seemless space travel.

While it was all very impressive, a lot of people began comparing Star Wars: Outlaws to Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2, probably because of its open world structure and the similarities between the two games' Wanted systems. It was revealed after the show that your actions in the world of Star Wars: Outlaws will be monitered by the Empire, and anything it deems as criminal shenanigans will be met with some deadly force.

Considering that many would argue that Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the greatest open world games ever made, Star Wars: Outlaws now has some pretty high expectations to meet, but it's actually something that creative director Julian Gerighty "feels great" about. Speaking with GamesRadar, Gerighty explains that he has a massive amount of respect for Rockstar and what the developer does, and is happy Star Wars: Outlaws is being compared to Rockstar's previous work.

"Rockstar makes the best games in the world, right?" say Gerighty. "I'm not here to talk about other games, but if there's a comparison there, that makes me feel great. Because, honestly, the respect that I have for those experiences is colossal."

It's nice to hear that the Red Dead Redemption 2 comparisons aren't putting too much pressure on Gerighty and the team at Ubisoft Massive, though I think it's worth tempering your expectations just a little bit if you're expecting the same level of detail and quality from Star Wars: Outlaws. What we've seen so far looks very impressive, and could get even more so if we see these space fights that include "much larger vessels" that Gerighty has promised, but Rockstar is on another level when it comes to open world development.

That being said, Star Wars: Outlaws still looks promising, and plenty of people enjoyed what they saw over the past few days. In fact, a lot of people are very much enjoying ND-5 in particular, the strangely hot commando droid that seems to be a close companion of protagonist Kay Vess. You'll struggle to find many threads about him that aren't full of people flustered over his smooth voice and gruff exterior, as it seems like Ubisoft Massive set out to make this one droid look like a certified snack.
