After five long months in the hospital, baby Alanie Lettsome is finally graduating from the NICU and going home! Born at 23 weeks and weighing just 1 lb., 1 oz, this little one has beat the odds stacked against him. And with no doubt, his family is overwhelmed with joy.

Baby Alanie stayed at Broward Health Medical Center, where he was born. During mom Graysel Stuart's gender-reveal ultrasound, doctors discovered that her cervix was opening. When medical intervention could not stop it, Graysel was sent to Broward.

Dr. Johny Tryzmel, the medical director of that NICU, explained how baby Alanie beat the odds.

"You're talking about a baby that the chances for survival were in the 30%, to say in the best case scenario, around that 30%, 40% - and [he] beat the odds," he shared. He went on to explain that Alanie's mom showing up every day played a key role in her baby overcoming the odds.

Alanie grew to over 9 pounds by the time he was released from the NICU.

"I was depressed for a while, but having that support system made it easier for me," Graysel shared. "My job is to protect him, and that's what I will do."
