Jim Turner, one of the most prolific kickers in NFL history and Denver Broncos Ring of Fame member, died on Monday. He was 82.

Turner was among the best ever to play the kicker position. When he retired from the NFL in 1979, he left the league as the second-leading scorer of all time with 1,439 points. He converted on 95.9 percent of his 543 extra-point attempts and also nailed 62.3 percent of his 488 field goal attempts.

His two fame claims came with the Broncos and the New York Jets. Turner converted three field goals in the Jets' historic Super Bowl III win over the Indianapolis Colts. That game ranks as one of the most pivotal and consequential sports games of all time and among the greatest in NFL history. Elsewhere, he had a celebrated career in Denver. He participated in the Broncos' Super Bowl loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XII. The Broncos inducted him in their Ring of Fame in 1988.

The Broncos left a tribute in the wake of the passing of Jim Turner. They tweeted, "We're deeply saddened by the passing of #BroncosROF K Jim Turner. Retiring as the second-leading scorer in NFL history, Jim was instrumental in helping establish our winning tradition as a key member of our first Super Bowl team. Our hearts go out to the entire Turner family."

A New York Jets History account left kind words as well for the Jet legend.

Many others left tributes after Jim Turner's passing.
