With the TikTok algorithm chucking kitchen hacks here, there, and everywhere, it's hard to know which ones are actually worth giving a go, and which are total nonsense. There's a world of difference between the truly delicious and iconic baked feta pasta, and the disastrous hash brown Mcflurry sando. Trust us.
However, one hack that we've seen do the rounds recently is genuinely useful for everyday cooking.
The trend in question is a new way of cooking fish, salmon in particular, to achieve super crispy skin without it sticking to your frying pan.
The trend is believed to have originated from a post on @chefsteps, which showed one of the channel's chefs using a piece of baking parchment to create a barrier between the fish and the pan.
The chef coated both sides of the baking parchment in oil (this is important for non-stick purposes) before laying it in the pan with the salmon on top. The extra layer allows the skin of the salmon to get super crispy without sticking to the surface of the pan, which often happens, even with the best non-stick pans.
From there, the cheffy method went mad on Instagram and TikTok, with food creators rushing to try the hack. From general consensus, it does seem to truly work! We put this down to the pro chefs at Chef Steps being behind the method.
Our top tips for making the most of the handy hack would be to make sure your salmon skin is totally dry, using a piece of kitchen towel to dab the skin will achieve this. You'll also want to make sure your pan is nice and hot to get all that golden crispiness.
