Bogus charity collector steals money from elderly man in Sudbury

A woman claiming to collect money for a charity helping deaf people, stole a quantity of bank notes from an elderly man while giving him a hug in a Suffolk town.

The theft took place at noon on Thursday, June 8 at the junction of Station Road and Great Eastern Road, near the pedestrian access to Waitrose, in Sudbury.

After the man in his 70s handed over some money, she distracted him by giving him a hug and took a quantity of bank notes from his wallet.

The woman is described as around 5ft 8ins tall, carrying a clipboard, wearing a facemask and long clothing.

Police ask anyone who has information, images or footage which could help the inquiry, to contact Suffolk Police, quoting crime reference number 37/33947/23 via the website.
