Mortal Kombat 1 Roster Might Have Just Leaked

Mortal Kombat 1 launches in a few months, but we still don't know its full roster. Ed Boon teased some callbacks with a tweet of MK4's line-up, and we found out at Summer Game Fest that Kenshi and Goro are returning, but besides that, we only know about the standard array of characters - Kitana, Johnny Cage, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Mileena, etc. However, a leaker might've just changed that, sharing 19 characters who will allegedly be in MK1's roster.

The full list was shared by @thethiny on Twitter, who said that it comes "from the people who gave us the trailer before it was released, along with the people who told us story mode details, and information that Ed Boon confirmed yesterday."

According To @thethiny, the full roster will include 24 characters, so there's still room for another five on this list. Interestingly, this is the main line-up, not the Kameo roster, meaning that several 3D-era characters could be returning as fully-fledged fighters. That also means they'll have larger roles in the story, rather than cameos (not to be confused with the Kameos I mentioned).

If you haven't heard of some of these names, I'll run down the more obscure picks. Havik debuted in Mortal Kombat: Deception and was last playable in Armageddon, he's described as the Cleric of Chaos, sowing the seeds of anarchy rather than being strictly good or evil. As you'd probably guess, he hails from the Chaosrealm. Then we have Reiko - they debuted in Mortal Kombat 4, tying in nicely to Boon's tease, and in the original timeline, they were a general in Shao Kahn's army.

Nitara is another Deadly Alliance debut. We haven't seen them since Armageddon, but they did appear in the 2021 movie. She's a vampire who spent most of her time in the original story trying to separate her realm from Outworld. Lin Mei likewise debuted in Deadly Alliance and was last playable in Armageddon - she's an Outworld warrior from a village that was enslaved by Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. And finally, we have Ashrah, who debuted in Deception. They're a demon from the Netherrealm, but she's also a demon hunter. Noticing a trend? A lot of 3D-era callbacks.

The rest have appeared more recently, so you'll probably recognise the names. But Armageddon, which was the last appearance for many of these 3D-era characters (outside of brief unplayable appearances in the story mode), launched way back in 2006. It's been a long time. But if this roster is legitimate, then 3D-era fans are in for a treat.
