2023 has given birth to a new era for this week's feature artist.
For fans of the act formerly known as POW! Negro, you're in luck. The project has broadened its horizons with a wider culmination of voices, sounds and inspirations.
Meet SUPEREGO.
It's the genre breaking five-piece who have been shaking up the Unearthed website with their dynamic range of uploads. With some numbers sounding bombastic whilst others heavenly, SUPEREGO are exploring genre agnostic terrain and are doing a damn good job at it too.
Rubbing shoulders with the likes of Midnight Oil, Sampa the Great and REMI under the alias of POW! Negro, since 2016 we've been keeping a close eye on this group from WA.
Where POW! Negro dabbled in a lot more experimental electronica, SUPEREGO incorporate psychedelic synth sounds with thoughtful lyrics that meet severe grit and attitude. When the crew chatted to Unearthed they spoke about the "collaborative" nature of this project, revealing that each member "swaps in and out of different roles over all the songs".

Consistently uploading heat to the triple j Unearthed website this year, each time a SUPEREGO track is sent live the Unearthed team goes dumb. You only have to read part of the review that triple j Unearthed Executive Producer Tommy Faith left on their page to get an indication.

And the swooning has only just started!
With their debut album Who Are You Hiding From set for release on June 15 *squeals excitedly* the band are continuing to level up in their sound, attitude and approach. Continually asking themselves, "are we pushing ourselves and finding new areas that we haven't touched on before?" SUPEREGO are well on their way to releasing their most intentional body of work yet.
And what's the best way to fully experience this feeling?
Why at their live show of course!
This high impact and high energy live band will be celebrating the release of this milestone body of work at their album launch on June 17th at the Rechabite in Perth. And word on the street is that there's a whole lot of things that audience members can expect.
With appearances from POOKIE, MALI JO$E and Sakidasumi this lot are only a few stellar names who will be appearing on the record. Therefore who knows what'll be in store for SUPEREGO's live set.
Although they're currently in their infant stages, the new life that SUPEREGO have taken on feels like a reinventing of sorts. We can't wait to be a part of their inevitable growth and evolution as a collective in years to come.
