Three-time Olympic sprint medalist Tori Bowie was pregnant and in labor at the time of her death.
According to a coroner's report obtained by TMZ, Bowie, who was eight months pregnant, died from childbirth complications. She was 32.
News of Bowie's cause of death comes after the Olympian was found dead by Orange Country Sheriff's deputies in her Florida home on May 2. Bowie's family asked police to conduct a welfare check after not hearing from her for several days, TMZ reported.
Bowie's management team issued a statement on May 3 confirming her death.
"We've lost a client, dear friend, daughter, and sister," the statement read. "Tori was a champion.a beacon of light that shined so bright! We're truly heartbroken and our prayers are with the family and friends."
Bowie broke out as a track star at the University of Southern Mississippi, winning NCAA long jump championships in indoor and outdoor track.
She went on to join Team USA and earn three medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics, including a gold in the 4x100-meter relay race, a silver in the 100-meter dash, and a bronze in the 200-meter dash. In 2017, Bowie became the fastest woman in the world, winning the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.85 seconds at the IAAF World Championship in London.
