Updated PC system requirements have been announced for Cyberpunk 2077 in preparation for the game's upcoming DLC release, Phantom Liberty. CD Projekt Red has confirmed that it's altering the system requirements for Cyberpunk 2077, increasing requirements compared to prior confirmed specifications. The reason for these changes, according to CD Projekt Red, is that updating requirements is an "important part of the game improvement process," as Cyberpunk 2077 receives enhanced and new features.

As CD Projekt Red fans and early Cyberpunk 2077 players understand, the game launched with significant performance issues on PC. These issues cannot be attributed to Cyberpunk 2077's PC requirements, by any means, but it's certainly possible that CD Projekt Red set its targets for PC hardware that should never have been recommended for the game. For example, the minimum PC requirements included an Intel Core i5-3570K, 8GB of RAM, a GTX 970 with 3GB of VRAM, and a 70GB HDD.

The updated PC requirements for Cyberpunk 2077 take some rather substantial steps forward compared to the prior requirements. To start, CD Projekt Red has clarified that the minimum specifications still are focused on 1080p resolution, but now explicitly state that it also targets 30fps. Requirements for these minimums are now an i7-6700/Ryzen 5 1600 CPU, a GeForce GTX 1060 GB/Radeon RX 580 8GB/Arc A380, 12GB of RAM, and most notably 70GB of space on an SSD drive. Hard drives are no longer recommended.

For comparison, the requirements for playing Cyberpunk 2077 on Ultra settings have also increased. To play the game at 60 fps, 2160p resolution, with Ultra settings, players are recommended to have a Core i9-12900/Ryzen 9 7900X CPU, GeForce RTX 3080/Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU, 12 GB of VRAM, 20 GB of RAM, and an NVMe storage device. That's not the peak Cyberpunk 2077 experience, though. The RT Overdrive Cyberpunk 2077 recommendations up requirements to a GeForce RTX 4080 GPU, and 16 GB of VRAM, 24 GB of RAM.

The updated requirements for Cyberpunk 2077 are based on CD Projekt Red's internal testing. It's important to state that these are recommended configurations and are not hard minimums. Cyberpunk 2077 won't stop working on hardware based on previous minimum requirements, though performance may vary.

Cyberpunk 2077's new PC system requirements will go into effect with the release of the game's next update, which won't arrive for at least another 90 days. The changes will apply both to the base Cyberpunk 2077 game and to Phantom Liberty when it launches on September 26. They will hopefully create better expectations regarding the performance of Cyberpunk 2077, and CD Projekt Red will hopefully meet those expectations this time around.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
